Christmas & New Years Eve Outfit Inspiration

Do you trawl the shops and the internet in December in search of that illusive new perfect dress for Christmas and New Years Eve, getting more and more desperate as it nears Christmas Day?

Well that's normally me! But I'm happy to say that this year is different!

Yes you read correctly, this year I have already found both my new Christmas dress and New Year's Eve dress from the same shop, no less!

Firstly let's look at my criteria for a new Christmas dress.

We usually celebrate our family Christmas at our house with all our extended family. We enjoy cooling dips in the pool, the kids chase our local Santa in his red fire truck up the street as he throws them lollies and then we eat, and eat, and eat whilst catching up on all our news and milestones from the year.

So my Christmas dress needs to be:
  • Cool and suitable for a hot summer's day
  • Easy to take on and off between swims
  • Colourful as I love wearing colour especially in Summer
  • Comfortable, allowing me to move around the kitchen preparing and serving food
  • Flattering - everyone wants to look good don't they?! and
  • Able to accommodate a big lunch!
As a size 16 I fall into the inbetweenie category where I can wear both larger standard size clothes and also smaller plus size clothes. beme is a plus sized fashion shop where I often find the perfect outfit no matter what the occasion. beme know how to flatter a larger figure beautifully.

Here is this year's Christmas dress that I found at beme. I've done the 'undie tuck' in these photos but you can just let the kaftan hang if you prefer.

Either way this kaftan passes my twirl test!

Now moving onto my New Year's Eve dress criteria.

For New Year's Eve I like my dress to be:
  • Comfortable as it is a loooong night and I need to be able to dance comfortably in it!
  • Cool enough for a hot Summer night
  • Flattering, skimming over the stomach area and with some upper arm coverage
  • Interesting and dramatic as well as sophisticated for a special evening look.
Usually it takes quite a lot of searching to find the perfect dress meeting my criteria but this year I found my dress easily and quickly, once again at beme. It's the beautiful black beme Elbow Sleeve Lace Kaftan Dress.

beme Elbow Sleeve Black Lace Kaftan Dress

I absolutely love the stunning sheer lace overlay of this dress which adds a touch of sexiness and sophistication to this dress!

Spot my photobombing Charlize Bunny in this photo. She was hopping all around me whilst the photos were being taken.

Beme Elbow Sleeve Black Lace Kaftan Dress

This dress totally passes my twirl and dancing test too!

Charlize wanted to be photographed too! I just needed to hold her paws firmly to ensure she didn't rip the lace panels.

Beme Elbow Sleeve Black Lace Kaftan Dress

One of the benefits of this dress is its versatility. It is easy to dress up with a pair of heels like I have done and some blingy jewellery, or you can also dress it down with some comfortable flats or sandals.

This dress could actually take you from poolside to evening dance floor depending on your choice of shoes and accessories. I love dresses that I know I will get loads of wear out of!

If you are an inbetweenie or plus sized lady I highly recommend looking either in-store or online at beme for dresses and outfits for any occasion ranging from everyday casual to sophisticated evening wear! Beme frequently have brilliant sales and special discounts throughout the year! I always seem to find what I'm looking for at beme!

  • Barbe's blog post from Fashionista in Suburbia detailing her 7 lippies in 7 days challenge players and winners was also popular. She had a whopping 350 entries!
  • I absolutely love fragrances and love seeing what fragrances other beauty bloggers are currently loving, so my pick from last week's link up was Shell's post about her perfume collection and wish list from The Novice Life.

My Melanoma Story

When SunSense asked me to write an article about my experience with malignant melanoma I hesitated a bit at first.

I was nervous about sharing my story on a large website rather than on my own blog, but to be honest it didn't take too long before I gave myself a stern talking to and came to the conclusion that if my story could help encourage others to be more sun safe and thus prevent them from developing skin cancer, then I should do it!

I admire SunSense as a company and the great job they do in educating the community on the importance of protecting themselves and their families against sun damage. I also genuinely love and use SunSense sunscreens on myself and my family on a regular basis, not just when they are gifted to me. It was these two additional factors that helped make the decision to share my story on the SunSense website even easier.

SunSense is a trusted Australian brand of sunscreen with so many different options available to suit every body. Whether you are looking for a spray, a roll on, a cream, a lotion or a gel, whether you want a sunscreen specifically for sensitive skin or specifically for your face, SunSense has one to meet your needs.

SunSense even have an anti-ageing matte finish SPF 50+ sunscreen with an invisible tint which is one of my favourites!

All SunSense sunscreens are fragrance free, dermatologically tested and suitable for sensitive skin. they also all contain Vitamin B3, an ingredient that is showing impressive benefits to the skin.

All SunSense sunscreens meet my needs for a trusted, effective, easily absorbed, broad spectrum sunscreen with a very high SPF.

SunSense Range of Sunscreen Products

As a result of the above, rather than being nervous anymore, I'm actually excited about being featured on the SunSense website and I sincerely hope that it encourages everyone reading the article to be more sun aware and sun safe than I used to be. Learn from my childhood mistakes!

So if you are interested in reading my melanoma story and finding out a bit more about my childhood and what growing up in the 70's and 80's was like click HERE to go to the SunSense website where my story is featured.

SunSense sunscreens are available exclusively in pharmacies and Priceline stores
Australia wide.

Click HERE to purchase SunSense sunscreens from Priceline online if you are needing
to stock up in time for summer and replace your old out of date sunscreens.

Popular Linked Posts From Last Week's

  • Kat from Kat's Colourings had a popular linked post reviewing the latest Marie Claire Ageless Parcel. Her post has really made me want to resubscribe to this beauty box. It does seem to be the best value beauty subscription box available, full of great quality products I'd definitely use.
  • Lily's linked post from Lily Not Louise blog about the fun sounding Bobbi Brown masterclass was also popular
  • Mel's linked AussieBeautyTalk YouTube video of swatches from the entire MAC LipTensity range was also popular! She was reportedly swatching for 3 hours to get all these swatches done!
  • My pick from last week's linked blog posts is Beth's post from Almost Posh about the Peony Parcel Subscription Box. I hadn't heard of this box before and I totally love the sound of creating a bit of "me" time! What a fabulous box!

7 Kris Kringle Beauty Gift Ideas With Christmas Puns Included

Every year I participate in a number of Kris Kringle Christmas gift swaps.

Being a beauty blogger I love giving little gifts of beauty. In keeping with the Kris Kringle lighthearted and fun approach I always add a Christmas pun related to the gift I'm giving.

These little beauty gifts with their included Christmas puns are all in the $25 or less price range with the majority under $15 and some even under $5!

I make my own Christmas gift tags but you can buy them if you're short of time or not feeling crafty. I print the puns onto white sticker paper making them super easy to stick on the tags.

These beauty gifts also make perfect end of year presents for teachers, coaches, neighbours, babysitters and friends.

In addition, I've used these gifts as Christmas table setting favours when I've hosted Christmas lunch at my house and they are fun stocking stuffers too!

I know some people find Kris Kringles and Secret Santa Swaps stressful, not knowing what to give, so let me remove your stress with my top 7 Kris Kringle beauty gift suggestions, fun Christmas puns included! There are gifts suitable for males in this list too.

1. Merry Kiss-Mas!

Merry Kiss-Mas! Rimmel Kate Moss Matte Finish Lipsticks

Merry Kiss-Mas! Rimmel Kate Moss Matte Finish Lipsticks

This is one of my favourite Kris Kringle beauty gifts to give. What woman doesn't love receiving a new lipstick!

I usually try to choose suitably festive looking red cased lipsticks such as these Rimmel London Kate Moss Matte Finish lipsticks.

Click HERE to buy.

Merry Kiss-Mas! Rimmel Provocalips 16 Hour Lipstick

The Rimmel Provocalips 16 Hour Lipsticks also make stunning looking Kris Kringle gifts.

Plus the long lasting nature of the Provocalips lipsticks is perfect for the recipient to wear during the December / January party season.

2. Wishing You A Mani Christmas!

Wishing You a Mani Christmas! Jamberry Nail Wraps

Jamberry nail wraps are a fun and much appreciated Kris Kringle beauty gift. I have used some of the Mirror and Metallic Jamberry nail wraps as gifts this year. Once again these are perfect for the recipient to wear to New Year's Eve parties or other special occasions.

If your Kris Kringle exchange is taking place before Christmas Day you could also gift one of the fun Christmas range of Jamberry nail wrap designs. The cute Disney themed nail wraps are also a popular gift among my daughter's teenage friends this year. There are nail wraps to suit every age group!

3. Santa-Tizer

Santa-Tizer - Thank You hand Sanitizer

This Kris Kringle gift of hand sanitizer works equally well for males as well as females. It is a good little gift to give to people who may be planning some holiday travel. On holidays we don't always have convenient access to running water to wash our hands before eating, making antibactierial hand sanitizer Santa-tizer most useful!

I like giving the Thank You brand of hand sanitizer because this brand has a feel good charitable factor too! Profits help provide access to hygiene and sanitation programs to people in need. It's a small bottle with big impact!

Click HERE to buy.

4. For Your Mistle Toes

For Your Mistle Toes

I've used the well loved Sally Hansen Complete Salon Manicure nail polishes for these Kris Kringle gifts.

They have a huge and gorgeous colour selection, contain a complete manicure in the one bottle and are well priced!

Click HERE to buy.

5. You're The Balm!

You're The Balm! Blistex Melon Happy Lips

You're The Balm! Sun Bum Lip Balm in Mango.

This is another Kris Kringle gift that works well for both males and females.

Depending on which gender you are gifting the lip balm to as to which lip balm is best to give.

The above are two of my current favourite lip balms. The new Blistex Melon Happy Lips lip balm has an amazing fruity scent. There is also a Christmas-y looking red Blistex Strawberry Happy Lips that would be perfect for festive looking Kris Kringle giving.

Click HERE to buy Blistex lip balms.

The Sun Bum Mango lip balm is cute with it's monkey, or is it an ape, mascot on the front. This lip balm is more gender neutral in my opinion than a lot of other lip balms in the market, making it perfect as a Kris Kringle gift for males too. I know my husband would be happy to pull this lip balm out of his pocket to use at the beach in front of his mates.

Click HERE to buy Sun Bum lip balms.

6. Wishing You A Christmas Full of Joy, Peace & Hope Soap!

Aishing You A Christmas Full of Joy, Peace & Hope Soap!

Who doesn't love a divinely scented soap! Scented soaps make another great little Kris Kringle beauty gift.

7. Sparkle All The Way!

Sparkle All The Way! OPI Nail Polish

Finally what's Christmas without a little bit of sparkle! This is another favourite Kris Kringle gift of mine to give, sparkly silver nail polish. OPI always has a stunning metallic or sparkly silver in their collection.
