Self-Balayage Your Hair in 5 Easy Steps

A couple of months ago I was lucky enough to be selected by beautyheaven to participate in the Schwarzkopf Blonde Ultime trial to self-balayage my hair with Schwarzkopf's expert Grant Withnell on hand for guidance and instruction.

The process was a lot simpler and easier than I thought it would be. The five easy steps included:

Step 1: Form two high pigtails, one on either side of the head.

Step 2: Tease/back comb the pigtails.

Step 3: Apply the Schwarzkopf Blonde Ultime product to the ends of the teased pigtails, as high as you want the colour to go.

Step 4: Wait for your hair to lighten to your desired shade of blonde. For me this took 30 minutes as I was after a subtle blonde colour.

30 minutes

Step 5: Wash the product out of your hair, then wash and style your hair as normal. Admittedly for this step I had some much appreciated pampering help from the Schwarzkopf professionals.

Was I happy with the end result?

Yes! This easy method resulted in no harsh lines across my hair, the colour was subtle, there was no yellowness and my hair felt surprisingly soft afterwards. I also received numerous compliments from my family, colleagues and friends.

I would highly recommend Schwarzkopf Blonde Ultime and this method of self-balayage. It is easy, economical and effective. Exactly what is needed for self-balayaging your hair at home.

Cheap Way to Buy Benefit Best Sellers

I've been lusting after some Benefit best selling products for a while but have been reluctant to pay the inflated Australian prices. Thus I did a bit of internet research to come up with what I believe is the cheapest way for Australian beauty lovers to buy genuine Benefit cosmetics.

I found that the official US website has a "Best of Benefit" special offer to buy a Benefit makeup kit that you customise yourself with the products of your choice.

For $79US you can choose one complexion product, one cheek product, and one eye product from a choice of 6 - 9 of Benefit's best selling products in each of these three categories.

In addition, you get a free cute makeup bag, which is always handy, and the choice of a free gift, either an ultra plush lip gloss in the colour of your choice or an ultra shine lip gloss. Also included are two free samples.

After much deliberation, here's what I chose:

Complexion:  POREfessional

Cheeks:          Rockateur

Eyes:               Fakeup hydrating crease control concealer

Freebie:          Hydra Smooth Lip Colour

Samples:        Triple Performing Facial Emulsion
                         POREfessional packette

Postage to Australia is very reasonable at $13.95US. If you spend more than $125US international  postage is free.

My order took exactly 2 weeks to arrive. The products were in perfect condition and I saved heaps by buying direct from the US rather than paying much higher Australian prices for these Benefit best sellers. So if you are wanting to buy any Benefit best sellers this is the cheapest option I found.

Here's the breakdown on my invoice of what I paid for each of my items. Remember this is in US dollars but with our current strong exchange rate I'm still way ahead of paying Australian prices.

Happy Shopping Beauties!

Sukin Rose Hip Oil & Facial Moisturiser

I've recently discovered and fallen in love with Sukin products. Sukin is a great Australian owned family company. It is carbon neutral, vegan and uses no animal testing. Pretty impressive - hey?!

In addition to the above feel good factors of Sukin, I've found Sukin products to be very effective and extremely affordable.

Sukin Rose Hip Oil

Sukin Rose Hip Oil is one of my new favourite products especially during the dehydrating winter season.

I use three drops massaged into my face after my shower each evening before going to bed. The oil is easily absorbed and my skin feels and looks a lot more hydrated, radiant and thus youthful in the morning. No wonder I love it!

It's reassuring to note that Sukin Rose Hip Oil is 100% certified organic and contains no preservatives, including no sulphates and no parabens, making this product safe for use on sensitive facial skin.

Being budget conscious, I love products that can be used for multiple different uses, and Sukin Rose Hip Oil definitely qualifies as a hardworking multi-tasking product. I have used it not only on my face but also for:
  • softening the cuticles around my nails
  • combating my cracked heels, dry knees and elbows, and
  • taming my fine, frequently flyaway hair.

I have also heard that Sukin Rose Hip Oil is soothing for various skin conditions such as eczema, psoriasis and rosacea but cannot comment on this from a personal perspective as I don't suffer from any of these conditions.

Sukin Rose Hip Oil is certainly affordable being priced at $19.95 for 25 ml and $32.95 for 50ml. I would recommend buying the smaller bottle as a few drops of this oil goes a long way.
Sukin products can be purchased online at or at pharmacies or Priceline stores.

Sukin Sensitive Facial Moisturiser

Sukin Sensitive Facial Moisturiser contains shea butter, aloe vera, rose hip, sesame and jojoba oils. I found it to be a thinner consistency than the other moisturisers I am currently using but still very effective.

It absorbed quickly, was non greasy and left my skin feeling smooth and hydrated. I found it fine to use under my makeup. I also used it as a night time moisturiser with good results.

One pump action dispensed ample product for my entire face.

Once again this Sukin product is very affordable, priced at $9.95 for 125 ml. I would willingly pay more for such an effective moisturiser.
