Makeup Organisation Solutions

My makeup is currently scattered across numerous locations in my bathroom (in the cupboard under the bathroom sink, next to the sink, in the bathroom wall cabinet), in my bedroom (in various makeup bags stored in boxes under my bed, on my bed side table, on my dressing table), in the car, in my handbag and in my top drawer at work to name just a few places.

Thus I finally bit the bullet and decided it was time to get organised, declutter what I don't use or what is out of date, and make my favourite, everyday makeup items easier to find and access.

I scoured through Instagram & Pinterest looking at makeup organisation methods I could adopt.

I decided to get an acrylic makeup organiser. Firstly because it could contain a lot of items in a relatively compact space and secondly because I liked how I'd be able see the contents without having to open any drawers or cupboards.

I explored ebay trying to find a bargain acrylic makeup organiser in a style and size I wanted. I looked into the acrylic stationery organisers at Officeworks as a cheaper option.

In the end however I decided to splurge and get the acrylic makeup organiser I fell in love with at first sight on The Makeup Box Shop's website.

In addition to The Makeup Box Shop's acrylic organiser I also purchased an Allure Cotton Pad Dispenser from Howards Storage World and the IKEA candle holders and pot plant holders for all my brushes and lip liners etc.

All of The Makeup Box Shop's makeup organisers come in either "original" style with small rectangular flat handles or "glamour" style with diamond shaped handles. As I love a touch of glamour, bling and sparkle, for the miniscule extra cost of $4, I went for the glamour version!

I had been a bit worried about whether my organiser would get damaged during postage but I needn't have worried. The makeup organiser arrived really well packaged in bubble wrap with extra foam strategically placed around the handles and edges. This package was then encased in a firmly fitting foam box which was then encased in a cardboard box. Australia Post could have played football with this box and the contents wouldn't have been damaged!

How do you store your makeup? I'd love to hear some of your makeup
organisation & storage tips!

  1. I don't have a ton of make up so it is current.y in an Ikea bin I love (they are from the kitchen section and are white with colour on the inside) plus some in a make up bag first. I love this case!! I do have lipsticks everywhere as that is my most used item even when I where no other make up in the daytime (often) I always have lippy.

  3. I bought the Godmorgon makeup organiser from IKEA late last year (as recommended by another beauty blogger) & it's perfect for me & my fairly small makeup collection - stores all my brushes too. I thought about getting something from The Makeup Box Shop, but couldn't quite justify the price at the time, given how small my makeup collection is. If I needed more storage space, I think I'd splurge then.

I keep my nail polishes on an acrylic rack from Howard's Storage World as well, which is handy, although I'm starting to run out of space there.

  4. That acrylic storage is so pretty! I have various stationary drawers, and a bedside table set of 3 drawers for my eye shadow palettes. Actually I'm doing the 8 day doll challenge on Instagram, and one of the days requires a pic of makeup setup, so I'll be posting a pic on Thursday :)

My make up which consists of old foundatuon and an even older lip stick are shoved in my bathroom drawer! I am useless at anything girly!

My makeup storage is kind of a mess. But I know where everything is, so it works for me.

  7. This looks fantastic!! You don't want to see what my makeup collection looks like. You really don't. I need to take a leaf out of your book. Although my mum did give me this great little lipstick holder. I can fit about 10 lipsticks standing upright in it. I love it. #teamIBOT

    1. Thanks Renee :) Great to hear you've got your lipsticks sorted. Prior to sorting out my favourite lipsticks I found it really hard and time consuming to find the lipstick I wanted to use each morning.

  10. How fabulous! I am so jealous of your make-up storage solutions. I have mine scattered throughout the bathroom and bedroom. I also love the idea of using the ikea pot plant holders to store your brushes.

This week I did something similar with my pens and texta collection. It looks great and it is so easy to find what I am looking for.

I am definitely keen to get my creative with my storage and decorating solutions. This week I watched an interview about how we can sometimes live our life on pause and we save these great decorating ideas for another time, instead of just living life and doing it right now. So I'm trying to live and appreciate my life even more than usual at the moment!!

  13. Great storage tower! I have a similar one and am actually waiting for the Makeup Box Shop one to arrive. I like my make up on display, but i am running out of room. Might be time to visit Ikea and get myself one of those 9 drawer Alex organisers!

  14. I've got a few ways of storing my makeup. I've got that make up organiser too - one regular size for the bathroom and another in a mini for the bedroom, to store some of my make up. Then I make Ikea my dearest friend. I have bought a few items that have successfully stored my endless collection.

  16. Are you happy with The Make Up Box shop organiser quality? I am considering their lipstick holder and it would be great to know if the product is worth the price tag.
It was lovely to meet you in person at the Glamour Affair event, I wish there was more time to chat with other bloggers.

    1. Hi Magda, it was lovely meeting you as well. I wish such events were held more often to allow for more time catching up with everyone. I am really happy with the quality of my organiser. I don't have any complaints, except I wish it were a bit cheaper!

  17. Such a great post!! Im also in the process of a huge cull and reorganisation, I love reading about how others store everything! The makeupbox storage is by far the best and most sturdy storage I own- and I love the little non slip pads on the bottom- perfect! Im posting a post in July with some piccies too- I love using stationary organisers to store my lippies! Its a bit odd but it works quite well I think! Great post as always :) thank you for allowing me to participate in the Monday madness :)

  18. OMG I need to do something with all mine! It's in 2 bathroom cabinets and in a wheel-along trolley. I'm a Beauty Therapist and Arbonne Consultants so I have heaps of cosmetics and skincare items along with waxing kit etc...you name it! I love the IKEA pots, I store all my brushes in them. I will have to check out the website for the make-up shop and see if anything will help sort it :-)

  20. Love the little chest of drawers hon - much more glam than the stationery drawer sets I bought from KMart (but they do hold a lot). I also use the glass containers left over from fragrant candles to store my lipsticks - they're all grouped into colours so I can find what I want quickly ♥
